Update in my OT world.

First Friday night after class and I don't have homework to complete for my 8:30am class. Unfortunately the paper I have all stapled and ready to turn in has an error ("songs" instead of "sons")...UGH. I guess I will leave 20 minutes earlier so I can fix the one measly word and reprint it.

This trimester has been VERY busy, so sorry I haven't posted in a great while. Since I last wrote, I had a DME (Durable Medical Equipment) assignment in which I had to look for equipment in different areas and for a variety of client needs. For one of the sections I had to research the price of installing an elevator in a home to increase mobility and accessibility. I typed in "elevators" and called the first place I came across. I requested the average price for an elevator, and told her it was just for an assignment, so I didn't need to know details. The voice on the other line was rather sassy and told me she couldn't help me because ..."Honey, I am in New Jersey, MN has unions so I have no idea how to help you". I asked her if she could give me a minimum price for an elevator ( a very rough estimate); "Honey, I already told you, I cannot help you because you guys have unions. I wouldn't know where to start. Why don't you call someone in MN that can actually help you."

I looked up "elevators, MN" for my next search and called the 1st company I saw. The voice on the other line was nice and warm. I asked her the same question. She explained to me the price and labor difference for newer non- existent buildings versus an older building. In the end the answer was this: elevators in MN cost between $30,000 and $65,000 to install. OUCH!!

We also got to use the Electronic Health Record program today; it was sooooo exciting!

One more weekend of classes on 12/3 and 12/4 and then I have a short break...YEAH! Next trimester's classes are sounding a little scary though:
-Clinical Kinesiology
-Mental Health Theory: Service and Delivery
-Evidence Based Practice
-Fieldwork Seminar A

Thanks for checking in and I hope everyone has a great Thanksgiving.

Bye~ OT
